Due to popular demand the SURE 'open' meetings are to restart - now with added tea, coffee and biscuits
We're putting together a varied programme of guest speakers, short films and technical demonstrations to help people start to move towards a lower energy, lower carbon lifestyle.
The first speaker is our own Rod Holt who'll be describing how he's converted his Victorian terrace house in Otley into very probably the most energy efficient home in the Wharfe Valley. There'll be lots of photos and details about how the Solar PV panels power ALL of his lighting (and quite a bit else); how the Solar Thermal panels provide a large proportion of his hot water; the immediate benefits of his triple-glazed Velux window and his argon filled double-glazed window and of course his wood-burning stove which provides heat and additional hot water.
Possibly of most interest is the very considerable amount of wall insulation he's added - in some cases up to 150mm. This talk will demonstrate that it IS possible to retrofit an older property to become a really warm, comfortable, low carbon home. There'll be questions and answers after the talk.

At our next meeting we're very pleased to have Geoff Fawcett from the 'Green Lane Cookridge' eco group who
between them won the 2008-2009 British Gas Green Streets competition.
Green Lane in Cookridge managed to collectively cut their energy use by nearly 35 per cent (34.29 %) in the year long competition.
Geoff will be telling us how they managed that - and how they've done in the twelve months since the
competition. Good inspiration for saving energy in our own homes..

These events are in addition to Steering Team meetings, SURE Project meetings and presentation of Energy Audit reports to Community buildings.
A number of members have also attended regional and national energy conferences and exhibitions - and brought information and ideas back to the Group.
