The very good news is that there is now a pilot scheme at Otley Library to loan out an Energy Monitor for free simply with a library card..

Otley Town Council bought the first ten monitors and then with SURE negotiated with Leeds City Council's Library Service to start the trial.

The intention is to roll out this scheme across the whole of Leeds so that lots of people can use the monitors to save themselves lots of money on their electricity bills.
  .
The Energy Monitor takes only five minutes to install and set up. Simply clip the clothes peg like device around the main electricity cable near your meter and then switch on the display in your kitchen.

The current is measured second by second and you can see straight away how much it's costing you. A key question is how much are you spending as you go to bed or leave the house.

It's easy to find appliances which are needlessly switched on when you're not using them.

"Using an Energy Monitor in your home is probably the single most useful thing you can do to reduce the amount of electricity you use."
